cost（成本）来自古法语 coste，进一步追溯到拉丁语 constare（“花费、代价为”）；benefit（收益、好处）来自拉丁语 beneficium（“善行、恩惠”）；analysis（分析）来自古希腊语 analysis（“分解、拆解”）。合起来就是“把成本与收益拆开来比较”的意思。
